Former Austin-East assistant Tracy Malone has joined the West football coaching staff as Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach.
Malone is a veteran of Tennessee coaching scene, having spent time as a head coach at four different schools and has been an assistant at four others. He was with the Roadrunners for one season and helped guide them to a Region 2-3A runner-up spot and the third round of the TSSAA playoffs.
“I’m really humbled to be here,” Malone said. “I’ve always heard great things about West, and I have known (Rebels Head) Coach (Lamar) Brown for a long time. I’m really excited to be here.
Malone has been a head coach at Whitwell, East Ridge, White County and Ardmore (Ala.) High Schools. In 2015, he led East Ridge to a 12-1 record, the best in school history, the Region 3-3A championship and was named Best of Preps Coach of the Year.
“Coach Malone is a great guy and a great offensive coach,” Brown said. “He has done an unbelievable job everywhere he has been. He was an assistant at Riverdale (High School) for a long time when they were winning championships (State Champions in 2001, Runners-up in 2000 and 2002, Region Champions from 1998-2002). We are very happy to add him to our staff.”
Malone is a McMinn County High School graduate and earned a bachelors degree from MTSU and a Master’s from Walden University. He has been married to his wife Kimberly since 1999, and they have three children — Allison (17), Reed (14) and Tate (11).
